Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling to Make Historic First Visit to Las Vegas

Las Vegas (February 20, 2020) - Six years ago, the word “curling” was first etched in the sand of the Nevada desert.  Las Vegas would go on to host five hugely successful events, eclipsing attendance records that had been set previously in Canada and other cities in the United States.  Astonishingly, Las Vegas had become a destination city for live curling.

Today, that reputation became firmly cast in granite stone, with news that the largest field of the world’s top women’s and men’s curling teams ever assembled outside of Canada, will be coming to Vegas.

Sports Nevada USA and Sportsnet,Canada's #1 sports network, jointly announced that Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling will make history by coming to the Orleans Arena, in the form of the MERIDIAN Open Las Vegas, running from January 12-17, 2021.  This marks the first time a Grand Slam series event will take place outside of Canada.

“We are thrilled to work with our Sportsnet and Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling partners to bring this much-anticipated MERIDIAN Open to the Orleans”, said Jon Killoran, Sports Nevada USA Chief Executive Officer. “Curling fans have been asking us what’s next for curling in Las Vegas for months now and today thanks to their enthusiasm we are making history by bringing the largest field of elite curlers ever to the World’s Curling Oasis,”

The MERIDIAN Open Las Vegas will include fifteen of the top-ranked women’s teams and fifteen of the top-ranked men’s teams in the world.  By comparison, the largest field at past events was thirteen, during the World Men’s Championship in 2018.  In addition to this, it is important to note that there are no territorial restrictions that limit the number of teams from an individual country or Canadian province.  Truly, the best of the best.

Since acquiring the Grand Slam series in 2012, Sportsnet has been committed to growing the sport of curling in Canada and internationally,” said Rob Corte, Vice President, Sportsnet and NHL Production. “Expanding to Las Vegas is an opportunity to showcase the world’s best curlers outside of Canada, while continuing to deliver the high-calibre competition and entertainment curling fans have come to expect of the Grand Slam series.”

As always with Las Vegas curling events, the ticket offering is highlighted by our ever-popular Hit & Stay packages, featuring accommodation at the incredible Orleans Hotel and Casino, connected to the Orleans Arena by indoor walkway.  Hit & Stay packages start at less than US$700 for TWO PEOPLE.  Ticket Only packages are priced from just US$149 per person.  TICKETS GO ON SALE AT 12 NOON PACIFIC TIME ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2020.

In true Vegas fashion, some additional sizzle is being worked on that will give fans the opportunity to show their stuff on the Grand Slam competition ice sheets, as well as the opportunity to curl with the Stars – fantasy style.  Details are still being worked on and will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We love treating our fans to new and unique ways to even further their enjoyment of attending our live curling events”, said Killoran. “Actually getting them on the ice fully embodies why we exclaim Las Vegas Rocks!”
